Feline
Demodex |
Demodecosis is an inflammatory parasitic disease of dogs and is
much more rare in cats. It is characterized by the presence of a high
number of mites in the hair follicles, which often lead to inflammation and
infection. The mite, demodex, is part of the normal make up of the skin and is
normally present in small numbers. The mite is a different species than the
canine form. It usually affects the eyelids, head, neck, ears, and the area in
front of the ears. It is usually self-limiting. The generalized form is
extremely rare.
