When associating hunting with animals it's the dog that normally springs to mind. But, as reflected in their art, it's the cat who very often accompanied the Egyptians on hunting trips in the marshlands of the Nile, pursuing birds and fish.

There are quite a number of such scenes, such as: one showing a cat hunting birds while its master spears fish; another showing a cat on a barge pawing its masters clothes, as he throws a stick at birds on the shore; another showing a cat flushing out birds for its master.
