Jaguar Cars

In 1935 Sir William Lyons of S.S. cars
designed a new chassis, engine unit and body. It was less flamboyant than
previous models, yet still stylish. It was closer to the contemporary
Bentleys which cost almost four times the price. With such a new design it
was decided that a new name was needed.
Lyons is reputed to have chosen the name from a list of animals whose
names suggested power and elegance. Thus the
new cars would be known as SS Jaguars.
This new model went on to be used to considerable effect in competitions,
both national and international.
