Road Accidents - Handling An Injured Cat

Although there may not be any obvious signs of any external injuries, it is likely that there may be some internal damage, therefore the injured cat must receive veterinary attention as soon as possible.

  • Gently stroking the top of its head, reassure the cat with a soothing voice.

  • Handle the cat as little as possible, don't just pick it up and let it dangle.

  • Keep it warm by putting a lightweight blanket or coat over it.

  • If the veterinarian cannot attend, make a stretcher out of something that will support the cat. Gently ease the injured animal onto the stretcher, making sure that no part of it dangles over the edge.

  • Keep the cat warm, quiet and reassured as you transport it to the veterinarian.
