Hi,
I've just read with great interest the messages about Walking the Cats!.
Last February I "invited" 2 cats from the local Cats Protection League
to live with me. Gracie was 4 and Felix 5. They had lived along with 3
other cats, with a very elderly lady who had to go into a care home.
Felix and Gracie soon settled in and I noticed after a few months that
Felix, if he was outside when I left the house, would follow me, but
only so far.
One night I was putting the rubbish out and Felix came out with me, so I
decided to see what would happen if I took him for a walk. As it
happens Gracie was also outside and she joined us.
It has now become a regular occurrence. The three of us go out for a
half hour walk 4 - 5 times a week. I live extremely close to a wooded
area and they love exploring it. But they always come running after me
if I move on. It's not so much of a "walk" for me...rather a very very
slow stroll!
It never ceases to amaze me that these 2 gorgeous cats stick close to me
and really seem to enjoy our little strolls. When we get home they
usually want to stay out a bit longer....so they do.... but they are
usually home within 15 minutes.
They are free to come and go as they please but I don't think they ever
go further than a couple of houses away. I can recall being told that
cats only relate to their territory and not people. UNTRUE! I know that
Gracie and Felix would not follow or go for walks with anyone else,
well at least not while I am their slave!
Cats are truly remarkable creatures and I love 'em!
