Paws ... another smart cat

Your Cat Stories

As a true cat lover, I've had the pleasure of many cats over the decades. My first cat to retrieve a thrown item was lucky. That's when I allowed my cats to go outside. Now my cats are indoors only with a huge screened in porch. For outside bird watching, sunning themselves and fresh air. Presently we have Paws of 9yrs and Rusty a yearling.
Lucky would retrieve crushed up paper products. We found out, by accident by trying to throw away trash. By time he was stolen, he would go out side down 3 flights of stair and still retrieve the crushed up paper. He'd run over, dig it out and bring it back to me to throw again. since then. Was frustrating, trying to actually throw something away, and have Lucky bring it back out to play!!

I've had 6 cats that retrieved their favorite chaser. Each one had a different item they would chase and bring back to be thrown again.

Paws likes Gatorade caps. He gets onto one, he forces me to play as he will not give up. He'll run three rooms away and bring it back 99% of the time for up to 1.5 hours. He comes when called, dinner or not. Luckily, Rusty acts similar, comes when called, will talk back to you and sits on command. Paws and Rusty proves, cats can learn and be aware of their surroundings.
Over the years, we have trained even feral cats into being a normal cat. In fact, Paws was a feral cat when we got him. Never guess he was ever mean. Both my cats will let you do just about anything to them within reason. Nothing harmful nor discomforting. Meaning you can examine or hold lopsidedly and the Vet loves both of them for being to easy going.

Having male cats, we also learned they have to have good quality food, not cheap stuff because male felines have a narrow urinary tract. Plugs up easily and can be fatal. Almost lost Paws little over a year ago, due to the bad cat food scare across America. Now we buy it straight from the Vets. A few pennies more, to avoid death or a $200-600 Vet bill is way worth the extra costs. Specially if you love your animals as we do ours!
