Beerbohm
Named after Herbert Beerbohm Tree, the famous actor-manager at
Her Majesty's Theatre, where he was born in the 1970s, the rather large tabby
was London's longest-serving theatre cat. He was the resident mouser
at the Globe Theatre (Now the Gielgud Theatre) in London's west end. Many
performers were often upstaged when Beerbohm would wander on stage during a
performance.
Beerbohm survived a near-fatal road accident to become famous
enough to have his photograph placed on the wall in the theatre's lobby. After
catching mice for 20 years he finally retired to Kent with the theatre's
carpenter. Beerbohm passed away in March 1995.
