Ariel was an 'Orange Persian' owned by author Carl van Vechten. In his classic work The tiger in the House (1938) he describes the cats love of water, and how it liked to get into his warm bath tub. The unusual cat also used to hide items under rugs, and would retrieve a catnip mouse when thrown, just like a dog might do.
