Alexander Borodin
1813-1887
|
The Russian composer Alexander Borodin and his wife were great
cat-lovers, and lived surrounded by them. The cats were allowed to do as they
pleased, which included walking on the dinner-table during meals. Rimsky-Korsakoff during
dinner, once complained of Mrs. Borodin that she was taking the cats side when he tried to shoo it
off his plate.
One of their many cats (said to number twenty) was called
Rybolov, which means Fisherman. The cat was given this name because he often
caught fish through holes in the ice.
