I had almost finished decorating our sitting room and the
job was going well, although it had taken several coats of emulsion to cover the
blue walls. The furniture, pushed into the middle of the room and draped in old
sheets provided a very interesting place for our cat: 'Wickett' to hide. I
was walking towards the tray full of emulsion paint on the floor, looking
forward to finishing and having a rest. Suddenly a paw aimed at my foot, shot
out from beneath the sheet covering the sofa, it missed my foot, instead the
claw became entangled in the sheet. I quickly put my roller down with my right
hand and grabbed hold of the panicking cat with my left. I was desperately
trying to release the offending claw when Wickett, who wasn’t having any of
that, decided that he just wanted to escape. He took one flying leap out of my
arms and landed right in the middle of my full tray of paint!
Now, if you look at “Wickett’s
Web Page” on this site you will see
that he is a very fluffy cat with a large tail. Yes that’s right, he proceeded
to run around the house flicking emulsion with his tail and making little paw
prints, with me in hot pursuit. I finally caught him and with the help of my
wife, managed to wash his tail and rear end with water in the sink. Wickett,
like most cats, is not too keen on water but strangely enough he didn’t seem
to mind us washing him on this occasion. He soon dried out and was no
worse for wear after his experience. It did take us quite a while to clean the
house, but I am just very thankful that it was emulsion and not gloss!
